A father-in-law strangled his daughter-in-law, and the son helped hide his wife's body

In the Chernivtsi Oblast police solved the murder of a 21-year-old resident of the village of Kolinkivtsi of Chernivtsi Raion, who was initially declared missing. The woman’s body was found buried on the premises of the household. This was reported by the police of the Chernivtsi region.

A report about the disappearance of the young woman was received by the police on May 4 from her husband. He said that after an argument his wife allegedly left home and did not return. After that, law enforcement launched a set of operational-search and investigative actions to determine the woman’s whereabouts and clarify the circumstances of her disappearance. According to the investigation, those involved in the crime are a 47-year-old father-in-law of the deceased and her 23-year-old husband. It was preliminarily established that on May 1 a conflict arose between the woman and her father-in-law, during which the man strangled his daughter-in-law.

According to the police, the husband of the deceased witnessed the murder. After that he, together with his father, helped hide the body. The police reported that the woman’s body was buried in the garden near the house, and the plot was then cultivated with a tiller. During the inspection of the household territory, law enforcement officers found the deceased’s body. Her hands were tied, and there was a plastic bag on her head. The final cause of death will be determined by a forensic medical examination.

According to law enforcement, the suspects tried to create the appearance that the woman had gone missing. In addition to filing a report with the police, they sent messages to her phone urging her to return home and made small transfers to the deceased’s bank card with the payment purpose “Come back”.

Operational officers, investigators, forensic experts, forensic medical examiners, canine handlers, prosecutors and other relevant services worked at the scene. Law enforcement seized a number of physical evidences. Both suspects were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, opened a criminal proceeding under p.12 ch.2 art.115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional murder committed by prior conspiracy of a group of persons.

The issue of notifying the detained of suspicion and choosing a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody is currently being decided.
