"Stocked up" without money: homeless man took alcohol and cigarettes from a store in Mykolaiv
A 20-year-old homeless man broke the door of a store and took merchandise
In Mykolaiv on April 28, 2026 the police received a report of a theft from a grocery store. An unknown person entered the premises and took some of the goods. Officers from the investigative-operational group of Police Department No.1 of the Mykolaiv District Police went to the scene.
During the inspection it was established that at about 07:00 in the morning the offender got into the premises by breaking the entrance door. From the store he took several bottles of vodka and dozens of packs of tobacco products. A few hours later operatives found the suspect on one of the city streets. He turned out to be a 20-year-old man with no permanent place of residence, who had previously been known to law enforcement. At the moment of detention he was carrying the stolen items in a bag.
The suspect was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural supervision of the Mykolaiv City District Prosecutor’s Office, he was notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — theft committed under martial law.
Law enforcement officers are currently checking the detainee’s involvement in other similar crimes. After the completion of investigative actions the seized property will be returned to the owner.
