Mykolaiv region still among the top regions for tuberculosis: the region ranks sixth in Ukraine
Meanwhile, the region recorded a 6.1% decrease in the indicator over the year
Mykolaiv Oblast remains among the regions of Ukraine with the highest tuberculosis incidence rates, despite a gradual decline in the statistics. Currently the oblast ranks sixth in the country by this indicator. This was reported on March 23, 2026, by the phthisiatrician of the Mykolaiv Regional Phthisiopulmonology Medical Center, Yevheniia Banenkova, on the air of the program «Radio Day».
According to the doctor, the epidemic situation in the region is gradually improving.
“Our rate is 52.5 per 100,000 population. It has decreased by 6.1 compared to last year. In total, we have registered 573 cases of tuberculosis, including repeat cases and relapses. For comparison, 610 cases were registered in 2024.”
Ahead of Mykolaiv Oblast in incidence are – Odesa, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr and Zakarpattia oblasts. She specifically emphasized that the positive trend is linked to a set of measures and programs implemented for the detection, treatment and prevention of the disease. According to experts, it was the systematic fight against tuberculosis that allowed the oblast to show a decline compared to the previous year.
“We see that in absolute numbers the number of cases is decreasing. This is the result of measures being implemented in our region and in Ukraine as a whole, in particular thanks to the law on combating tuberculosis and the strategy to fight diseases such as HIV infection, viral hepatitis and tuberculosis,” the doctor said.
