850 hryvnias for punching a neighbor in the face: verdict in Mykolaiv region

A court in Mykolaiv Oblast fined a woman 850 hryvnias for punching her neighbor in the face. She was found guilty of intentionally causing minor bodily injury. Details of the conflict are set out in the court ruling published on reyestr.court.gov.ua.

The incident took place in the Pervomaiskyi District on the evening of July 15, 2026. The victim and an acquaintance came to her relative’s home to make sure he was all right. In the yard, they saw broken glass and discovered that three windows in the house had been smashed.

The woman approached her neighbor to find out who might have damaged the property. In response, the neighbor began hurling obscenities at her. During the verbal argument, the neighbor punched the victim in the right cheek with her left fist. The victim then went back to the house and called the police.

An expert found a bruise on the victim’s face. The report stated that it could have been caused by a blow from a blunt object. The injury was classified as minor bodily harm.

During the trial, the defendant fully admitted her guilt and expressed remorse. The victim asked for the case to be heard in her absence, said she had no claims against her neighbor, and left the choice of punishment to the court.

In determining the sentence, the court took into account:

• the defendant’s remorse;
• the absence of prior convictions and aggravating circumstances;
• her raising three minor children;
• her formal employment;
• a positive character reference from her place of residence.

The woman’s actions were classified under Part 1 of Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional infliction of minor bodily injury.
