Volkswagen burned out completely: 40-year-old suspect detained
In Pivdennoukrainsk police detained a 40-year-old man suspected of deliberately setting fire to his neighbor’s car. According to the investigation, the crime was preceded by a verbal altercation. The incident was reported by the Mykolaiv Oblast Police on 21 August 2026.
At around 01:30 a man called the emergency line 102 and reported a fire involving a Volkswagen Sharan parked near an apartment building on Independence Avenue. As a result of the fire the vehicle was completely destroyed. Investigators from Police Department No.3 of the Voznesensk District Directorate arrived at the scene. While inspecting the area and interviewing residents, law enforcement officers established that the previous evening a quarrel had occurred between the 64-year-old user of the vehicle and his 40-year-old neighbor. According to the investigation, some time after the conflict the younger man went out into the yard and intentionally set the Volkswagen on fire.
Police, together with criminal analysis analysts, established the suspect’s whereabouts. The police noted that he had previously repeatedly come to the attention of law enforcement. The man was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, he was notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional destruction or damage of property by arson. If found guilty, the man faces up to ten years in prison. A court is expected to decide a preventive measure for him soon. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
