In Kyiv a Russian citizen was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment for the intentional killing of an acquaintance. During the quarrel the man struck the woman at least 12 times with a metal kitchen ladle to the head. In court he stated that he allegedly acted under strong emotional disturbance after insults from the victim. This is stated in the verdict of the Dniprovskyi District Court of Kyiv.

The crime occurred on 24 January 2026 at around 15:00 in the Dniprovskyi district of the capital. The Russian citizen came to the acquaintance’s apartment to clarify issues regarding longstanding debt obligations. During the conversation in the kitchen a quarrel broke out between them. According to the convicted man, the woman allegedly insulted him and his mother, called him a «kats**», and at one point turned to the stove to take a frying pan.

The man grabbed a metal kitchen ladle and inflicted on the victim no fewer than 12 blows to the head. As a result of the numerous open head wounds, massive blood loss and shock, the woman died on the spot approximately 20–30 minutes later. After the act, the man attempted to conceal the traces of the crime. He wiped away the blood, took the ladle, put it in a backpack, locked the apartment with the key, and later threw the backpack with the weapon into a garbage bin near the building and fled.

During the trial the man fully admitted his guilt. At the same time, he claimed that he had no prior intent to kill the woman and allegedly acted under the influence of strong emotional disturbance due to the insults. However, a comprehensive forensic psychological-psychiatric examination established that at the time of the crime the man had no mental disorders, fully understood his actions and was able to control them.

A forensic medical examination confirmed that the woman’s death was caused by multiple open head wounds and blood loss. In addition, genetic traces of the victim’s blood and epithelium were found under the defendant’s nails. The victim’s niece told the court that she had spoken with her aunt the day before. The woman complained that due to shelling of Kyiv she could not sleep properly. According to the relative, valuable items also disappeared from the apartment after the murder.

25 September 2026 the Dniprovskyi District Court of Kyiv found the Russian citizen guilty under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional murder. The court took into account the convicted man’s sincere remorse and his active assistance in solving the crime as mitigating circumstances. An aggravating circumstance was that the crime was committed against an elderly person.

The man was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment. The preventive measure in the form of detention was left in place until the verdict takes legal effect. The term of the sentence will be calculated from 27 January 2026 — the day of his arrest. In addition, the convicted man is to be charged 9,075.30 hryvnias for procedural costs to conduct the examinations.

The court verdict may be appealed in the appellate procedure within 30 days from the date of its pronouncement.
