He Took Drugs to Sell: Man Fled from Police in Mykolaiv
The detainee has been notified of the suspicion; the court will decide on a preventive measure
In Mykolaiv, a young man picked up a package containing pre-portioned narcotics prepared for further distribution. According to police, he had purchased them for sale. After he tried to flee, he was detained and notified that he was suspected of a crime.
The incident took place on October 28. Officers from the patrol police response sector of Police Department No. 5 of the Mykolaiv District Police Department were patrolling the city. When he saw them, the young man tried to run away and throw a parcel bearing a postal carrier’s logo over the fence of a residential building. The officers caught up with him and called an investigative team from Police Department No. 1 of the Mykolaiv District Police Department.
During initial investigative actions, officers seized a package containing bundles and containers of liquid from the man. The total weight of the contents exceeded 245 grams. Forensic specialists conducted a rapid test, which showed that the substances were narcotics. All items seized were sent for the relevant examinations.
Law enforcement officers established that the man had purchased the substances in advance with the intention of selling them. Investigators detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Under the procedural supervision of the Mykolaiv City District Prosecutor’s Office, the detainee was notified that he was suspected of an offence under Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The allegation concerns the illegal acquisition, possession and transportation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in especially large quantities for the purpose of sale. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Police are determining where the suspect obtained the narcotics and who else was involved in the activity. The court is expected to decide on a preventive measure for him soon.
