In Mykolaiv, two men sold drugs via stash drops and were sentenced to up to 10 years in prison
The court confiscated the property of those convicted, but the verdict is not yet in force
In Mykolaiv, two men organized the illegal sale of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances through stash drops. The court found them guilty and sentenced them to 10 and 9 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The verdict is not yet final.
In January, during a sweep of the city’s territory, officers of the Mykolaiv District Police Department noticed a man acting suspiciously on the street. During a check of his documents he said he had drugs on him. 25 tablets of the psychotropic substance “ecstasy” were seized from him.
Further investigative actions showed that the man was acting together with an acquaintance with whom he rented housing. By prior agreement they purchased especially dangerous narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances on social networks, received them at the post office, and packaged and prepared them for contactless distribution.
The police detained both suspects in the course of the proceedings. They were notified of suspicion under parts 2 and 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — for illegal acquisition, possession and transportation of drugs and psychotropics for the purpose of sale, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy and in especially large amounts.
After the investigation was completed, the police together with the prosecutor’s office sent the indictment to the court. One of the accused received 10 years imprisonment with confiscation of property for the totality of charges under part 1 of Article 263, parts 2 and 3 of Article 307, as well as part 3 of Article 15 and part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The other man was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property under part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
A first-instance court’s verdict becomes legally effective after the expiration of the period for filing an appeal, if none is filed. In the event of an appeal, the decision becomes effective after the case is considered by the appellate court, unless it is overturned.
