The family home of an ex-brigade commander suspected of killing the brothers caught fire: locals say there were explosions

In the village of Kalynivka in Kyiv region on the evening of September 19, 2026, a fire broke out in the home of the family of the former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade, Stanislav Luchanov, who is suspected of organizing the abduction and murder of two local residents – brothers Maksym and Roman Moseichuk.

The fire was reported by hromadske citing residents of Kalynivka. According to them, three explosions were heard in the village before the fire broke out. Earlier that day local residents saw Luchanov’s wife Daryna with two children in Kalynivka. According to the publication’s interlocutors, the explosions were heard after the former brigade commander’s relatives had already left.

“There were three explosions, as if set on a timer. On the third – flames began to blaze in the window,” a relative of the deceased Moseichuk brothers told hromadske.

The woman suggested that the ignition could have been deliberate. At the same time, this is only the version of local residents and it has not been officially confirmed.

According to hromadske, rescuers who arrived at the scene suggested that the cause of the fire may have been a short circuit in the wiring. The fire was extinguished and did not have time to spread to the rest of the house.

Stanislav Luchanov is a figure in a criminal case regarding the abduction and murder of brothers Maksym and Roman Moseichuk from Kalynivka.

According to investigators, at the end of June Luchanov involved eight subordinate servicemen in the abduction. On the night of June 27, they, as the prosecution stated in court, arrived at the brothers’ house, entered the property, used force, tied up the men and transported them to a military unit near Poltava.

According to the investigation materials, the brothers were unlawfully held there until July 1. Prosecutors claimed that on that day Luchanov decided to organize their murder to cover up the abduction and involved battalion commander Oleksiy Dolholenko in this. This is the prosecution’s version, and the guilt of the suspects must be determined by a court.

July 13 Luchanov was detained in Kyiv, and the next day the Rokytne District Court of Kyiv region ordered a pretrial measure of detention without bail. Luchanov himself stated that he does not admit guilt.

In September the pretrial measure for the former brigade commander was extended. According to his lawyer, the court made the corresponding decision on September 6, and Luchanov did not challenge it and announced his intention to cooperate with the investigation. hromadske also confirmed the information about the extension of the detention with the Office of the Prosecutor General.
