Law enforcement officers detained a former brigade commander suspected of organizing the abduction and brutal murder of two brothers from Kyiv region.

In total, nine servicemen were detained in the case, and the former brigade commander was detained on 13 July 2026 in the Podilskyi district of Kyiv.

The disappearance of the two brothers was reported to the Kyiv region police on 3 July 2026. The men stopped responding, so investigators and operatives launched large-scale search operations.

During the inspection of the missing persons’ property, law enforcement officers found damaged video surveillance equipment, traces of gunshots and other physical evidence indicating a serious crime had been committed.

Police processed footage from dozens of surveillance cameras, analyzed vehicle routes, identified cars that could have been used by the perpetrators, and reconstructed the chronology of events step by step.

According to the investigation, before the abduction a conflict arose between one of the brothers and a local woman. The woman reprimanded the young men for loud music and riding motorcycles. In response, the brothers allegedly used obscene language.

After that, the woman’s husband, who is a serviceman, demanded that the brothers apologize to his wife. The men refused, after which the serviceman, according to the police, decided to take revenge and involved other servicemen in his plan.

The investigation believes that members of the group, armed, entered the brothers’ property. The men were forcibly placed into a car, taken to another region and held unlawfully for an extended period.

After that, the abducted men were killed and their bodies were buried in a wooded strip in the territory of the Poltava region.

The hiding place of the deceased was established by police on 9 July 2026. During the examination, numerous gunshot wounds were found on the bodies, which, according to law enforcement, indicate particular cruelty in the crime.

During further investigative actions, law enforcement detained a serviceman suspected of the direct murder of the two men. During an investigative experiment, he showed the place where the bodies were buried.

As a result of special operations, criminal investigation operatives, investigators of the Kyiv region police and the Bila Tserkva district police department, with the help of criminal analysts and with force support from KORD and the Armed Forces’ internal security, detained nine suspects. All detainees are servicemen.

Eight members of the organized criminal group were notified of suspicion of illegal deprivation of liberty and abduction of persons committed by an organized group, under part 3 of article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The penalty under the article provides for up to 10 years imprisonment.

One serviceman was notified of suspicion of intentionally murdering two persons under point 1 of part 2 of article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment. The suspects were taken into custody.

Separately, on 13 July 2026 in the Podilskyi district of Kyiv, operatives of the Kyiv region police, with force support from KORD, detained the former brigade commander.

The former commander was notified of suspicion under part 3 of article 27, part 3 of article 146, part 3 of article 28, and points 1, 3, 9, 12 of part 2 of article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He also faces up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Kyiv region police under the procedural leadership of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Central region. The final guilt of each of the defendants must be determined by a court.
