29 August Russian forces attacked the Mykolaiv district with strike drones Shahed. A food industry production complex owned by PepsiCo was hit. There are no injured employees at the enterprise.

The facility produces carbonated drinks Pepsi and iced tea Lipton Ice Tea. Currently PepsiCo is assessing the consequences of the attack, but does not disclose the nature or extent of the damage and does not name a possible date for resumption of operations. The company said it is working to restore the supply of its products to customers and consumers in Ukraine.

PepsiCo operates in Ukraine through several enterprises in Mykolaiv Oblast. They produce juices, snacks, carbonated drinks and iced tea. The company’s brands include «Sandora», «Sadochok», Pepsi, 7UP, Mirinda and Lipton Ice Tea.

This is not the first time PepsiCo‘s capacities have been damaged by Russian attacks. In 2022 the company relocated one of its production sites to Vyshneve, Kyiv Oblast due to the proximity of Mykolaiv region to the front.

However, that enterprise was also affected. In September 2023, after a missile strike a fire broke out there that destroyed a dairy products warehouse and production premises. After that the company’s main product — the drink Pepsi — had to be imported into Ukraine.

The attack on 29 August also damaged energy facilities in Mykolaiv region. Due to disruptions in the power grids in Mykolaiv, as well as in the communities of the Mykolaiv and Bashtansky districts, emergency outages occurred. According to preliminary data, more than 300 thousand subscribers were left without electricity.

In Mykolaiv trams and trolleybuses temporarily stopped operating. Passengers were transported by 37 PTS trolleybuses capable of covering up to 20 kilometers of autonomous range. Diesel generators were used for their operation and charging.

Despite the power outage, hospitals, purified water distribution points and traffic lights with autonomous power continued to operate in the city. City services helped residents deal with the aftermath of the attack.

Besides the energy infrastructure, Russian forces struck a household supermarket in Mykolaiv. After the attack a fire broke out there, which firefighters extinguished.
