In Pervomaisk in the Mykolaiv region, a motorcycle parked near one of the residential buildings was set on fire. Investigators link the fire to the actions of a 31-year-old local resident — a serviceman who left his military unit without authorization. The man was charged with intentionally damaging or destroying property by arson.

The motorcycle caught fire late in the evening on September 10 on Hetman Mazepa Street. Rescuers extinguished the fire. The vehicle sustained damage; the remnants remaining after the burning and other material evidence were seized.

To identify who was involved in the arson, police carried out operational measures and reviewed video recordings from cameras connected to the “Safe City” system.

During a sanctioned search of the suspect’s residence, his personal belongings and other items that may be evidence in the case were seized. They were sent for expert examination. After receiving the experts’ conclusions and carrying out the necessary investigative actions, the man was notified of suspicion under part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

If his guilt is proven, the punishment may reach 10 years of imprisonment. The investigation continues: law enforcement are establishing the circumstances and possible motives for the arson, and are also checking whether other people may have been involved.
