In Mykolaiv municipal services continue to eliminate the aftermath of a Russian attack on the premises of Lyceum No. 40 in the Korabelnyi District. Workers are clearing debris, inspecting damaged rooms and temporarily boarding up blown-out windows. The progress of the work was reported on 3 August 2026 by the Mykolaiv City Council.

As a result of the attack the institution’s building sustained significant damage: the blast wave blew out almost all the windows, doors, classrooms and the sports hall were damaged. One of the two school buses burned out completely, and the other’s glass was damaged. At the same time the shelter located next to the point of impact of the munition and debris withstood the impact and remained undamaged.

“The most important thing: the shelter located next to the point of impact withstood the blow and fully performed its function,” — said the mayor Oleksandr Senkevych.

The institution was being prepared for the start of the new school year. With state co-financing the lyceum was undergoing a major overhaul of the canteen to create modern conditions for preparing meals for pupils. The city authorities plan to appeal to international partners for assistance in restoring the damaged building.

On the morning of 2 August Russian forces attacked Mykolaiv with a Shahed-type loitering munition “Shahed”. As a result of the work of the Defense Forces and falling debris the lyceum and vehicles were damaged. According to local media, it was specifically Lyceum No. 40.
