Fire engulfed 25,000 tons of oil after a strike on a port terminal
Strike on infrastructure in the Odesa region: sunflower oil tanks damaged
On the morning of July 14, 2026, Russian forces attacked the Kernel terminal for transshipment of sunflower oil in the Odesa region. The company’s press service reported the consequences of the strike on July 15.
As a result of the attack, a large-scale fire broke out that damaged half of the oil storage tanks and the terminal’s infrastructure. The blaze affected about 25,000 tonnes of product belonging to Kernel and an American company that stored it at this facility. This is the annual consumption volume for nearly 2 million people. Most Ukrainians know Kernel by the brands «Щедрий Дар» and «Стожар», which are in the kitchen of almost every family. The fire was localized and extinguished within 12 hours thanks to the work of port company employees, rescuers, and assistance from neighboring terminals. The fire did not spread to other facilities, and there was no oil leakage into the sea area.
There were no injured among the employees. The company is addressing the consequences of the attack and assessing the extent of the damage. Kernel emphasized that strikes on Ukrainian port infrastructure damage not only business but also global food security and the stability of world supplies.
