After a Nissan maneuvered into the oncoming lane near Mykolaiv, a minibus overturned: 12 dead, the prosecutor's office is investigating

The Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office has opened a pre-trial investigation into a large-scale road accident that occurred on July 4 at about 07:42 on the Odessa – Melitopol – Novoazovsk highway near the turn to the village of Shchaslyve in the Mykolaiv district: 12 people were killed, and another 6 were injured, including a 15-year-old girl.
According to the press service, criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — on the fact of violating traffic safety rules that caused the death of several persons.
In view of the scale of the tragedy and the public resonance, the group of prosecutors conducting procedural supervision in the case was headed by the head of the regional prosecutor’s office, Ihor Domushchoy.

According to preliminary investigation data, the driver of a Nissan crossover entered the oncoming lane and created a dangerous situation for a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibus. To avoid a head-on collision, the minibus driver steered to the right onto the shoulder, lost control, the vehicle overturned, entered the oncoming lane and collided with a Volvo truck.
As a result of the accident, the minibus driver and 11 passengers were killed. 6 injured people with injuries of varying severity, including a 15-year-old girl, were taken to medical facilities in Mykolaiv.
Law enforcement officers have established the whereabouts of the Nissan driver; investigative actions are being carried out with him, after which his actions will be given a legal assessment.
The pre-trial investigation continues.
Among the dead are employees of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivelektrotrans» and members of their families. The event was commented on by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and for Saturday, July 5, a day of mourning will be declared in Mykolaiv.
