Two boats for all the children: without support from Mykolaiv residents, young champions may be left without training
The Youth Sports School "Olimp" in the Korabelnyi District is asking for help
To the editors of “Korabelov.info” a request was made on 20 June 2026 to help the pupils of the Children and Youth Sports School “Olimp”, which operates in the Korabelnyi District of Mykolaiv. The sports school is participating in the Community Budget with project No. 16, which provides for the purchase of professional boats for the indoor rowing pool.
The sports school is taking part in the Community Budget vote with project No. 16. To support the initiative you must vote specifically for project No. 16 on the official Community Budget platform:
https://budget.e-dem.ua/4810100000/project/24850?compid=2768
Before confirming your vote, school representatives ask that you carefully check the number of the selected initiative. Voting is free of charge. You can authorize via the “Diia” app or using bank identification.
Its goal – is to purchase professional boats for the indoor rowing pool, where children will be able to train regardless of season or weather. A reader explained why citizens’ support is especially important for the school and its pupils right now.
“Good afternoon. I hope you can help me post the vote on your page. The children’s sports school Olimp submitted a project for consideration in the Community Budget. We need to win this vote so that the children can do their favorite sport year-round. Boats will be purchased for the indoor pool. Our champions will be able to pursue their favorite activity”, – wrote Marina.
As stated in the appeal supporting the project, the school currently has only two boats suitable for use in the indoor pool. This amount of equipment is insufficient for the simultaneous and full operation of training groups. Some children have to wait their turn, and coaches – must plan sessions taking into account the acute shortage of gear.
The project specifies the purchase of 4 rowing boats, 2 canoes, 2 inclusive boats and a set of paddles for a total of UAH 445,000. Purchasing additional professional boats will make it possible to organize regular training in the indoor rowing pool throughout the year. Children will be able to continue their preparation, maintain sporting form and improve technique even during the cold season.
The authors of the initiative stress that this is not a cosmetic upgrade of the sports school, but equipment that will be used daily during training.
The Children and Youth Sports School “Olimp” operates in the Korabelnyi District and trains athletes in kayaking and canoeing. Its pupils regularly represent Mykolaiv and Mykolaiv Oblast at national and international competitions.
In 2025 the school’s pupils won medals at the Ukrainian championships. Representative of the Children and Youth Sports School “Olimp”, Ksenia Tsompel, won a silver medal at the World Championships in Portugal, as well as a bronze at the European Championships in Romania.
At national competitions, Olimp’s pupils also won dozens of awards. At the Ukrainian Cup and national starts in Uman alone, the school’s representatives won 12 medals. At the same time, high sporting results do not eliminate the school’s everyday domestic problems. To raise new champions, not only talented children and experienced coaches are needed, but also serviceable, modern and accessible equipment.
For each individual resident it is only a few minutes, but for the pupils of “Olimp” the result of the vote may mean the opportunity to train without long breaks, prepare for new starts and continue bringing medals to Mykolaiv. New boats are not needed by the children for pretty photos or officials’ reports. They are needed for daily work in the pool, to develop technique, for safe sessions and to prepare athletes who have already proven they can represent the city and Ukraine with dignity.
