53% of Ukrainians believe that Zelensky should limit himself to one presidential term - poll
New poll on Zelensky: more than half of Ukrainians do not want a second term
The majority of Ukrainians surveyed believe that President Volodymyr Zelensky should not take part in the next presidential elections. According to a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), 53% of respondents believe that the head of state should limit himself to one current term. At the same time, 42% of those surveyed think Zelensky should participate in the next elections and seek a second term. Another 5% were undecided.
At the same time, Ukrainians’ attitude to holding the elections themselves now differs from the question about the possibility of a second term for the president. 71% of respondents believe that elections are not timely at the moment and should be held after the end of the war. Holding the elections now is supported by 24%, and another 4% were undecided.
The KIIS survey was conducted 12–21 September 2026 using telephone interviews. It included 1002 Ukrainian citizens aged 18 and over who at the time of the survey were residing in territories controlled by the government of Ukraine.
KIIS also noted that the share of those who believe Zelensky should limit himself to one term increased compared with December 2025 — from 46% to 53%. At the same time, the share of those who support his participation in the next elections decreased from 45% to 42%.
At the same time, the survey results do not mean that a majority of Ukrainians are in favor of holding the elections now: on the contrary, 71% of those surveyed consider them inappropriate until the end of the war.
