Children of war head for peace and quiet: 100 children of defenders from Mykolaiv region set off for Ivano-Frankivsk region

100 children of defenders from the Mykolaiv region set off for the “Carpathian Shift”. This was reported on 31 May 2026 by the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim. According to him, this is the first arrival as part of a project aimed at the mental and physical rehabilitation of children from frontline regions. The initiative is being implemented with the support of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with the participation of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration and the Ukrainian Association of Football.

Vitalii Kim noted that the “Carpathian Shift” is intended to give children the opportunity to rest, change their surroundings, do sports, meet new people and receive the positive emotions they especially need during the war. Vitalii Kim thanked the Ivano-Frankivsk region, which is hosting children from the Mykolaiv region, as well as the partners who joined the organization of the trip. Among them he named Ukrzaliznytsia, McDonald’s, “Khreshchatyk”, “Rumyanyi Khlib” and others.

“Many thanks to the Ivano-Frankivsk region for hosting our children. I am also grateful to all the friends and partners who joined the organization of the trip. Ukrzaliznytsia, McDonald’s, “Khreshchatyk”, “Rumyanyi Khlib” and many others – no one stayed on the sidelines”, – reported Vitalii Kim.

The head of the region wished the children a good rest, to regain strength and to return home in good spirits.

“Ahead of our children are rest, sport, new acquaintances and emotions that they so much need today. I wish the children a good rest, to regain strength and to return home in good spirits. Thank you all very much!” – added Vitalii Kim.

It was previously reported that within the framework of the initiative “Carpathian Shift” 200 children of servicemen, veterans, the fallen, the missing and captured defenders of Ukraine from the Mykolaiv region are to go to the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The program provides cultural, sporting and restorative activities, as well as psychological support for the children.

For the frontline Mykolaiv region, such trips are not just a vacation. They are an opportunity, even for a limited time, to take children away from the constant background of anxiety, loss and wartime tension, and to give them space for calm, socializing and recovery.
