Watermelons, water and birds on their backs: a lecture about capybaras will be held for children in Mykolaiv
At least something not about worries: a free science event about interesting animals will be held for little ones
The event on April 22, 2026 was reported by the Mykolaiv City Council. The event is organized by the Science Kids team, which weekly arranges meetings for children with scientists, interactive activities, and discussions on topics such as space, dinosaurs, technology, health, and nature.
This time the topic will be “Interesting Animal: the Capybara”. The lecture will be delivered by zoologist Hanna Rashevska. The event is scheduled for April 25, at 15:00. Organizers note that participants will be told about these intelligent and gentle animals, who love to bathe and eat watermelons. Children will also learn why capybaras so easily befriend other animals and people, why birds often “ride” on them, and what can bother these animals in the wild.
It is separately emphasized that participation in the event is free, but only after prior registration (to do this, fill out the form via the link). The venue will be communicated personally to all registered participants a day before the event for security reasons.
For Mykolaiv, which during the war continues to seek safe formats for children’s education and leisure, such events have become one of the few ways to give children not only rest but also a living interest in science and nature. Similar educational formats for children have been held in the city before — in particular lectures and interactive events at the zoo.
