Wandered in the mountains for over a week: Romanian rescuers evacuated a 30-year-old Ukrainian by helicopter
He was found in a hard-to-reach area; he had been without food for four days and is now in the hospital
In the Maramureș Mountains on the territory of Romania, rescuers located and evacuated a 30-year-old Ukrainian citizen who had wandered for more than a week in hard-to-reach terrain; the operation was completed on May 24.
The outlet Zaxid.net reported the rescue, citing the Maramureș Mountain Rescue Service.
According to the rescuers, an alarm signal was received on May 23 from a friend of the Ukrainian’s family, who said the man had stopped making contact; on the same day border guards and rescue units joined the search, but work was temporarily suspended at night.
On the morning of May 24 a helicopter joined the operation, after which the man was found in a difficult-to-access area of the mountain range.
«The man himself said that he got lost more than a week ago and spent four days in the mountains without food. The Ukrainian was airlifted by helicopter to the foothills of the mountains, from where an ambulance took him to the hospital,» — the outlet Zaxid.net reported.
