In Mykolaiv region law enforcement officers exposed a 23-year-old local resident suspected of obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period. According to the investigation, the young man administered a Telegram channel with a large number of subscribers and used it to spread information that could help people evade mobilization.

Specifically, this concerned messages about places where summonses were handed out, geolocations of mobile checkpoints and other sensitive information. The prosecutor’s office believes that such actions could have been used not only to avoid military duty but also to destabilize the situation in the region.

In addition, according to the investigation, the channel administrator systematically discredited mobilization measures and spread manipulative narratives of the aggressor state. The statement from the Security Service of Ukraine in Mykolaiv region notes that the resource was popular among men who wanted to avoid mobilization.

During a sanctioned search, law enforcement officers seized the suspect’s mobile phone. According to the authorities, evidence of unlawful activity was found in it, which formed the basis for bringing charges.

The man has now been notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period. He is in custody during the investigation.

The text of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office states that the suspect faces from 8 to 15 years of imprisonment, while the SBU statement mentions punishment of up to 8 years. At the same time, the security service separately reminds that such actions are regarded as a crime against the foundations of national security, and in certain cases the law provides for harsher punishment — up to 15 years of imprisonment.

Law enforcement are also checking whether other participants were involved in the operation of this online community. Investigative actions are ongoing.

The suspicion was announced under the procedural guidance of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, and the comprehensive measures were carried out by employees of the SBU in Mykolaiv region.
