Over UAH 260,000 in losses from shelter repairs: an entrepreneur to stand trial in Mykolaiv region
The case concerns a shelter at a lyceum in the Pivdennoukrainsk community
In the Mykolaiv region, prosecutors have sent an indictment to court against a 34-year-old entrepreneur in a case involving the misappropriation of public funds during repairs to a shelter at a lyceum in the Pivdennoukrainsk community. According to police, the local community suffered losses of more than 260,000 hryvnias.
The entrepreneur’s illegal activity was exposed by officers of the Police Department No. 3 of the Voznesensk District Police Department. The Voznesensk District Prosecutor’s Office oversaw the proceedings.
Investigators established that in April 2023, the entrepreneur signed a contract with a department of the Yuzhnoukrainsk City Council. Under the agreement, he was to carry out repair work at the shelter of a municipal lyceum.
According to the investigation, over several months the contractor prepared and submitted completion certificates that overstated the volume and cost of the work and construction materials. Investigators established that he knowingly entered false information into official documents. According to police, these actions caused financial losses to the community.
Based on the evidence gathered, the entrepreneur was notified of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- in August 2026 — of misappropriating another person’s property by abusing an official’s position, committed under martial law, under Part 4 of Article 191;
- later, following the relevant expert examinations — of forgery of official documents under Part 1 of Article 366.
The pre-trial investigation into two instances of criminal offenses has now been completed. Investigators submitted the indictment to the prosecutor’s office, which then sent it to court for a hearing on the merits.
If found guilty, the entrepreneur faces up to 8 years in prison, along with disqualification from holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to 3 years. The court will make the final decision in the case.
Under Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a criminal offense until their guilt has been proven in accordance with the law and established by a court’s conviction.
