AI for child pornography: Odesa investigates the production of photos and videos
A 38-year-old local resident was served with a notice of suspicion; the confiscated equipment was sent for examination
In Odesa, a 38-year-old local resident has been notified of suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material and creating such content using artificial intelligence. The Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Region reported the man’s exposure. According to od.npu.gov.ua.
According to investigators, the man found pornographic material depicting children online and saved the files. To create new photos and videos, he used a special artificial intelligence-based program, combining fragments of the material he had already saved.
Law enforcement officers searched his home and seized computer equipment. They found prohibited content on it, and the seized items were sent for forensic examination.
The man has been notified of suspicion under parts 1 and 3 of Article 301-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to 12 years in prison and a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to 3 years.
The question of what preventive measure to impose is currently being considered. The investigation is ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Chornomorsk District Prosecutor’s Office.
