A driver with a blood alcohol level of 1.2‰ ran over a 12-year-old motorcyclist in the Mykolaiv region

September 22 at about 20:55 in the area of house No. 97 on Myru Street in the town of Kazanka, Bashtanka district, a road traffic accident occurred. A 22-year-old driver of a VAZ 2101 struck a Forte FT 125-2 motorcycle ridden by a 12-year-old boy.

As a result of the collision the child sustained bodily injuries. The boy was taken to a medical facility in Mykolaiv and hospitalized.

Police found signs of intoxication in the car driver. During an examination at a medical facility he was recorded to have 1.2 per mille of alcohol.

Investigators have opened a criminal case with a preliminary qualification under Part 1 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of road traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by a person who operates a vehicle while intoxicated. The article’s sanction provides for up to 3 years of imprisonment and a ban on driving vehicles for up to 5 years.

The 22-year-old driver was detained in procedural order in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators are establishing the circumstances of the accident.
