Jealousy over his ex led to the arson of a Dodge: father involved his 17-year-old son

In Kyiv, driven by jealousy over his former lover, a man, according to investigators, decided to take revenge on her new partner and involved his underage son in the act. As a result of the arson, a local resident’s Dodge Challenger was damaged — the owner is a serviceman who is currently performing combat duties at the front.

As the capital police reported, information about the vehicle fire was received by the Shevchenkivske Police Department. At the scene, law enforcement officers found the car damaged by fire. Operatives together with forensic analysis specialists identified the possible involvement of a 46-year-old Kyiv resident and his 17-year-old son in the arson.

According to the investigation materials, the man had recently separated from the woman with whom he had been in a long-term relationship. Upon learning about her new partner, he allegedly decided to take revenge and involved his minor son in the wrongdoing.

The father and son went to where the car was parked. They soaked pieces of cloth in a flammable liquid and placed them in the wheel wells. The teenager then lit the cloth with a lighter, which caused damage to the vehicle.

Investigators of the Shevchenkivske Police Department, under the procedural guidance of the Shevchenkivskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, have charged the father with intentionally damaging another’s property by arson and with involving a minor in unlawful activity. The youth is accused of intentionally damaging another’s property by arson. The maximum punishment for these offenses is up to 10 years imprisonment.
