In Kherson, anti-personnel mines of the “Pryanyk” (“Plyushka”) type were discovered in at least two districts of the city. The police warn that the dangerous area may be larger, so residents are urged not to enter mined sections.

The first find was discovered on Poltavska Street — near the intersection with 5th Viryovchyna. Another mined site was recorded on Nezalezhnosti Avenue, near the intersection with Yevropeyska Street.

The danger was reported on September 8 by the police of Kherson region. The situation was also informed by the head of the Kherson City Military Administration, Yaroslav Shanko. Law enforcement officers note that mines may be located outside the already discovered areas.

According to the State Emergency Service (DSNS), if you find a suspicious or explosive object you should:

  • not approach it or touch it;
  • move to a safe distance;
  • warn people who are nearby;
  • report the find by calling 101 or 102.

Mines of the “Pryanyk” type can be dropped by Russian forces from drones. They are capable of being camouflaged, so Kherson residents are asked not to pick up unfamiliar objects from the ground.

The danger from such finds has already led to injuries. In the village of Sahaidachne in Kherson region, a 60-year-old man was injured after a Russian drone that fell into his yard detonated. He had attempted to disassemble the drone himself.
