In the Kherson region, a man will stand trial for the murder of a 7-year-old girl and her mother

Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office has sent an indictment to court against a resident of the region who is accused of a double murder and the rape of a minor child. According to the investigation, the crime occurred in July 2022 during the temporary occupation of Kherson by Russian forces.

According to the case materials, the man killed his former 40-year-old wife and her 7-year-old daughter from her first marriage. A forensic medical examination determined that the child was raped before the killing. The cause of death of both victims was mechanical asphyxiation.

After committing the crime, the accused hid outside Ukraine for a long time. In March 2025 he was notified of suspicion in absentia.

The man was detained thanks to the joint work of the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office, the international police cooperation sector and law enforcement officers of the Republic of Poland. On 19 March 2026 he was extradited from Poland and handed over to Ukraine. This was previously reported by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.

The accused is currently in custody and awaiting the court’s verdict.

He is charged with:

• paragraphs 1, 2, 10 of part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional murder of two persons, of a minor child, and murder combined with rape;
• part 4 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — rape of a minor.

For the charged crimes the man faces life imprisonment.
