In the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv, it was reported at the stadium “Molodizhny” of Sports School No. 5 that they managed to overcome the consequences of the large-scale flooding the institution had been battling over the past three months. Restoring the sports facility required a lot of time, effort and persistent work.
The problem intensified back in spring. As “Korabeliv.Info” wrote on April 29, 2026, the water level on the territory of the “Molodizhny” stadium at Sports School No. 5 on Pryozerna Street, 2, was constantly rising. The football field was being flooded, preventing children from training properly.
At the end of May 2026 the situation remained difficult. The issue of the flooded stadium was taken up by the Mykolaiv Regional Council. At a meeting of the relevant commission, deputies discussed possible causes of the flooding. At that time the main field was practically unusable, and the school’s pupils trained on a backup pitch.
At the same time, the head of the municipal enterprise “Mykolaivvodokanal”, Hennadiy Izyumov said during a briefing on May 28, 2026 that the enterprise is not responsible for putting the river in order or arranging storm drainage, although it can assist in emergency water pumping.
But even after that the problem did not disappear quickly. As of June 19, 2026 a significant part of the stadium was still under water. Local residents reported that they had to pump out the water themselves and pay for gasoline and equipment repairs out of their own pockets.
Now Sports School No. 5 reported that after three months of fighting the flooding, the consequences have been overcome and the stadium has been brought back to life.
The institution specifically thanked the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Mykolaiv City Council for prompt support and for helping to acquire a water pump. That equipment proved crucial for pumping out the water and significantly sped up the restoration of the sports facility.
The parents of Sports School No. 5 pupils also joined the work. The sports school thanked them for their care, solidarity and readiness to help during a difficult period for the institution.
The sports school expressed special thanks to the director, the institution’s staff, the guards and everyone who was directly involved in restoring the stadium. People invested their own effort, time and energy to make the sports facility safe and suitable for children’s training again.
At the same time, the problem of the “Molodizhny” stadium being flooded has existed for many years. As early as 2018 “Korabeliv.Info” wrote that the main problem of Sports School No. 5 was the lack of a properly functioning groundwater drainage system. At that time it was reported that the existing drainage collector did not operate correctly and that water had to be pumped off the football field with pumps.
Summing up the long work to eliminate the consequences of the current flooding, Sports School No. 5 emphasized that overcoming the problem was possible thanks to the joint efforts of the staff, the pupils’ parents and all those who cared.
