Struck a woman at an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing: an 18-year-old resident of Mykolaiv was placed under probationary supervision
In Mykolaiv, a technical lyceum student was punished for a traffic accident involving a pedestrian
The Central District Court of Mykolaiv found guilty an 18-year-old technical lyceum student who, riding a moped, struck an elderly woman at a pedestrian crossing. This was reported by the court press service on 22 July 2026.
The accident occurred in June 2025 on Central Avenue. Approaching an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing, the young man did not ensure the safety of traffic and collided with a woman who was crossing the road. The victim sustained injuries of moderate severity. During the trial, the defendant admitted his guilt, confirmed violating traffic rules, expressed remorse, apologized to the victim and partially compensated the damages.
Judge Serhii Medyuk found the young man guilty under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to one year of probationary supervision. The convicted person was also deprived of the right to drive vehicles for one year. During this period he must report to the probation authority, notify about changes of residence, work or study, not leave Ukraine without permission and complete the program “Life Skills Development”.
In addition, the court partially satisfied the victim’s civil claim and ordered the defendant to pay 20 thousand hryvnias in non-pecuniary (moral) damages.
