A drunken quarrel ended in a stabbing: a repeat offender in Mykolaiv was sentenced to 8 years
A man attacked two acquaintances
In Mykolaiv, a court sentenced a man to 8 years in prison who, while drinking alcohol together, inflicted stab wounds on two of his acquaintances. The Mykolaiv Oblast Police Communications Department reported the verdict on 16 July 2026.
The incident occurred in February 2025 in the apartment of one of the multi-storey buildings in Mykolaiv. Three acquaintances were drinking alcoholic beverages together when a verbal argument broke out between them.
During the conflict, one of the men grabbed a knife and struck his two opponents. A woman witnessed the incident and called the emergency line 102.
Police established that the attacker had previously been repeatedly held criminally liable. After the crime, he was detained in the course of criminal proceedings.
Investigators informed the man of suspicion of the intentional infliction of grievous bodily injury. Having collected the necessary evidence, law enforcement completed the pre-trial investigation and handed the materials of the criminal case to the prosecutor’s office.
Prosecutors referred the indictment to the court for consideration on the merits.
The court found the man guilty under part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional grievous bodily injury.
The defendant was sentenced to 8 years in prison.
At the same time, the first-instance court’s verdict has not yet come into legal force. It will take effect after the deadline for filing an appeal has expired, if no appeal is filed.
If the decision is appealed, the verdict will enter into legal force after the appellate court’s decision, unless it is overturned.
