In the Buzkyi Liman in the area of Voloska Spit near the village of Parutyne in Mykolaiv district, a man was found who was fishing without permission with a prohibited gear. Among the illegal catch was a Red Book-listed sevruga.

This was reported on 11 July 2026 by the State Environmental Inspection of the South-Western District.

The violation was recorded on 10 July by state inspectors together with servicemen of the VSP 26th border detachmentof the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

During the inspection they found 1 sevruga, listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, 17 catfish, 6 zander, 59 bream, 12 puzanks, 2 silver crucian carps and 1 common carp. In total the man illegally caught 98 fish.

Specialists calculated the damage caused to the state in accordance with the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine resolutions No.1042 of 29 September 2023 and No.1030 of 7 November 2012. The amount of damages amounted to almost 300 thousand hryvnias.

Administrative materials were drawn up against the man under Part 2 of Article 90 and Part 4 of Article 85 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences. The materials will be forwarded to the court.

The catching of the sevruga caused particular harm — it is a rare species of sturgeon whose population is under threat. Illegal taking even of a single such fish complicates the recovery of the natural population.
