Police have notified suspicion against a 30-year-old driver of a Hyundai Accent who, according to the investigation, while intoxicated caused a fatal road traffic accident in the village of Chornomorka in Mykolaiv district. As a result of the vehicle overturning and catching fire, a 20-year-old passenger died.

This was reported on July 7, 2026 by the Communications Department of the Mykolaiv Oblast Police. The man was informed of the suspicion on July 6 under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office.

The accident occurred on July 4, 2026 at approximately 20:15 in the village of Chornomorka of the Chornomorska community. According to law enforcement, the 30-year-old man driving the Hyundai Accent left the roadway, after which the car overturned and caught fire.

During procedural actions, police determined that the driver was intoxicated. He registered 0.81‰ blood alcohol content.

Investigators from the Transport Crime Investigation Department of the regional police headquarters informed the man of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This concerns a violation of traffic safety rules by a person operating a vehicle while intoxicated, if this caused the death of the victim.

A court is expected to choose a preventive measure for the suspect in the near future. If found guilty, the man faces up to 10 years in prison with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 5 to 10 years.

The pre-trial investigation continues.
