Car crash in Mykolaiv: the Audi driver who, while drunk, killed a woman and her daughter faces up to 12 years in prison
Law enforcement officers determined that the man was driving the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol
Police detained and notified of suspicion the 31-year-old Audi driver who, while in a state of alcohol intoxication, caused a fatal road traffic accident in the center of Mykolaiv.
As a result of the crash, 2 people died — the 50-year-old driver of a Citroen C3 and her 17-year-old daughter. Another 17-year-old passenger remains in a medical facility.
On 21 June 2026 the communications department of the Mykolaiv region police reported this.
The road traffic accident occurred at about 22:15 on 20 June 2026 at the controlled intersection of Tsentralnyi Avenue and Zakhysnykiv Mykolaiv Street, formerly Dekabristiv.
An Audi driven by a 31-year-old man and a Citroen C3 driven by a 50-year-old woman collided at the intersection.
As a result of the collision, the Citroen C3 driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Two 17-year-old daughters were in her car. Both girls were hospitalized with injuries.
One of the underage passengers sustained severe injuries. Despite doctors’ efforts, she later died in the medical facility.
The other 17-year-old girl remains in the hospital. The police have not released detailed information about her condition.
Investigators detained the Audi driver under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Law enforcement established that the man was driving the vehicle while intoxicated. During procedural actions, he was found to have 2.51 per mille of alcohol.
After the death of the second victim, the legal classification of the criminal proceeding was changed.
21 June 2026 investigators of the regional police chief’s office, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, informed the driver of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
He is charged with violating road traffic safety rules as a person who operated a vehicle while intoxicated, which caused the deaths of multiple people.
The sanction of this article provides for up to 12 years imprisonment with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 7 to 10 years.
The court is expected to decide on a preventive measure for the suspect in the near future.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Police are establishing the full mechanism of the collision, the speed of the vehicles and other circumstances of the fatal accident.
