Flew off the road and caught fire: a 20-year-old passenger in a Hyundai was killed in Mykolaiv region
A 30-year-old driver was taken to the hospital
In the village of Chornomorka of the Chornomorska community in Mykolaiv district, a fatal road traffic accident involving a Hyundai Accent occurred. As a result of the crash, a 20-year-old passenger was killed, and the driver was taken to hospital with injuries.
The incident was reported by the Mykolaiv region police.
According to the police, the accident happened on July 4, 2026 at about 8:15 p.m.. Preliminary data indicate that the 30-year-old driver of the Hyundai Accent lost control, drove off the carriageway, after which the car overturned and caught fire.
As a result of the collision, the 20-year-old passenger of the car died. The driver sustained injuries; medics hospitalized him, and he is currently under observation.
Law enforcement officers are currently establishing all the circumstances and causes of the accident. Investigators have opened a criminal proceeding under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – “Violation of traffic safety rules or the operation of transport by persons driving vehicles that caused the death of the victim”.
The sanction of the article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment with possible deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to 3 years.
The Transport Crime Investigation Department of the investigative directorate asks citizens who witnessed the accident or have information about its circumstances to contact by phone: 099 725 23 00 or 102.
