People fell into a deep pit: in Mykolaiv a repair trench was left unfenced

In the center of Mykolaiv, two people fell into a deep trench dug during pipe replacement repair work. According to residents, the dangerous area was not fenced off and there were no warning signs nearby.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 28 June 2026, near building No. 10 on Kolodyazna Street. The event was reported by Mykolaiv residents, write “Novyny-N”.

Pipe replacement work is being carried out in this area. To access the utilities, workers dug deep trenches, but, witnesses say, they did not properly restrict access to the hazardous zone.

Because there were no barriers or warning signs, two people fell into the trench.

According to readers, one of the injured sustained a head injury during the fall. There is no information yet about the nature of the other person’s injuries, the need for hospitalization, or their subsequent condition.

It is also not reported which company is carrying out the pipe replacement on Kolodyazna Street or who was responsible for fencing off the work site.

As of the time of publication, no official comments had been provided by communal services, city authorities, medical personnel, or law enforcement regarding this incident.

Open trenches without protective fencing pose particular danger at night, as well as to children, the elderly, and residents with visual impairments. Even during the day a pedestrian may not notice the edge of an excavation, especially if there are no warning tapes, barriers, or signs around.

The incident near building No. 10 on Kolodyazna Street once again raises the question of the responsibility of contractors for pedestrian safety. This time, the dangerous excavation, residents say, has already led to people being injured.
