Another traffic accident involving a child: investigators are looking into what happened at the intersection in Mykolaiv
Two cars failed to share the road: the police are looking for witnesses to the accident
On the evening of 22 June 2026 in Mykolaiv, a road traffic accident occurred involving a Mercedes-Benz and a VAZ-2105. As a result of the collision, 3 people were taken to hospital, including an 8-year-old girl. The accident was reported by the police of Mykolaiv Oblast.
The crash happened at about 17:20 in the area of the intersection of Vingranovskogo and Troitska streets. According to preliminary information from law enforcement, the Mercedes-Benz was driven by a 32-year-old man, while the VAZ-2105 was driven by a 31-year-old driver.
As a result of the collision, the driver of the VAZ-2105 and 2 of his female passengers — a 33-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl — sustained bodily injuries. All 3 injured were taken to a medical facility. The nature of their injuries and their condition were not specified in the police’s initial report. The Mercedes-Benz driver also sought medical assistance but refused hospitalization.
Law enforcement officers worked at the scene. Investigators are currently establishing the mechanism of the collision, the directions of travel of the vehicles and other circumstances that may have led to the crash. The incident was preliminarily classified under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by a person driving a vehicle. For committing such an offense, punishment is provided, in particular up to 3 years restriction of liberty.
Authorities also appealed to possible witnesses of the accident. Citizens who saw the moment of the collision, have recordings from dashcams, or possess other important information are asked to contact the Department for the Investigation of Crimes in the Field of Transport.
