On the night of 15 June Russian forces launched a massive strike on Kyiv, using drones, ballistic and cruise missiles, resulting in deaths and injuries, and damage to residential buildings and cultural heritage sites.

Preliminary estimates indicate that about 140,000 subscribers are without power, and damage and destruction were recorded in 10 districts of the capital.

Among the sites struck was the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, and the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration Tymur Tkachenko said that the Russians deliberately chose the Lavra as a target.

“Thanks to the coordinated actions of the Lavra’s monastic community, rescuers and firefighters, it was possible to minimize the threats to people and to preserve the shrines,” Archbishop Avraamiy said.

The Dovzhenko National Film Studio was also severely damaged: the costume workshop with unique collections was destroyed. Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy Tetiana Berezhna confirmed the loss of the largest collection in Ukraine: the site stored about 100,000 costumes and 3 million items of clothing.

According to rescuers, impacts were recorded in the Obolonskyi, Podilskyi, Pecherskyi, Solomianskyi, Holosiivskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Dniprovskyi, Desnianskyi, Darnytskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts, where apartments and warehouses caught fire, windows and doors were blown out by the blast wave, and cars were burned.

As of now, 25 people have been wounded and 4 killed, and municipal and emergency services continue to respond to the consequences of the shelling in all affected locations.
