Fatal step on the "zebra": in Mykolaiv a woman died after being hit by a municipal bus
Death at the crosswalk near "Magellan": a municipal bus in Mykolaiv struck a woman; police are investigating who had the green light
In Mykolaiv, law enforcement officers are investigating a fatal road traffic accident involving a municipal bus and a pedestrian that occurred during the day on 1 June 2026 near the “Magellan” shopping center on Heroes of Ukraine Avenue.
According to the police, at around 14:10 a 66-year-old driver of the bus SOR NB 12, which was carrying passengers on route No. 1 “Ternivka microdistrict – Ocean plant”, struck a 68-year-old woman. At that moment she was crossing the roadway at a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing.
The victim sustained severe bodily injuries. Medics hospitalized the woman, but they were unable to save her — she died from her injuries.
Investigators have opened a criminal case under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules that caused the death of a victim. The article’s sanction provides punishment of up to eight years in prison.
Authorities are currently establishing key circumstances of the tragedy, in particular which traffic light signal the bus was moving on and which signal the deceased woman was crossing on.
The Transport Crime Investigation Department is appealing to possible witnesses of the incident. Anyone who saw the moment of the accident or has recordings from dashcams is asked to report information by phone: 068-327-44-14 or 102.
