In Pereiaslav in the Kyiv Oblast, police are investigating a fatal road traffic accident in which an underage driver died. The accident occurred on 29 May 2026 at around 14:30 at an intersection of one of the city’s streets. This was reported by the Communications Department of the Kyiv Oblast Police.

According to preliminary information from law enforcement, a 15-year-old teenager was behind the wheel of a BMW. At the intersection he collided with a Skoda driven by a 17-year-old boy.

As a result of the accident the Skoda driver sustained serious bodily injuries. He was taken to the hospital, but the boy could not be saved — he died in the medical facility.

Investigators, under the procedural supervision of the Boryspil District Prosecutor’s Office, have opened a criminal proceeding over the fatal road traffic accident. It concerns Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of road safety rules or vehicle operation that caused the victim’s death.

Separately, the police will also check 2 areas: a possible case of putting technically faulty vehicles into operation or other violations of their operation under Article 287 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as well as malicious failure to fulfill child-care duties under Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In fact, the investigation must establish not only how exactly the accident at the intersection occurred, but also under what circumstances the 15-year-old teenager ended up behind the wheel of the BMW. This question becomes one of the most painful after such tragedies: who gave access to the car, who was supposed to supervise the child, and whether the fatal trip could have been prevented.
