Fatal run-over: 17-year-old female driver ran over and killed a 13-year-old child in a car accident
Traffic accident in May in Ruska Mokra, Tiachiv district; the driver was placed under personal recognizance, proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code
In Zakarpattia, an indictment has been sent to court against a girl who, at 17 years old, fatally struck a 13-year-old child during a traffic accident in May 2024 in the village of Ruska Mokra in the Tiachiv district.
The regional police specified that the underage local resident was behind the wheel of a Volkswagen, did not take the road conditions into account, and the girl suddenly ran onto the roadway, as a result of which she died at the scene from the injuries sustained.
Information about the accident was entered into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations (ЄРДР) under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the driver was notified of suspicion and a preventive measure in the form of a personal obligation was applied.
After completing the necessary investigative actions and examinations, the materials of the criminal proceedings together with the indictment were sent to court, and the sanction of the charged article provides for imprisonment for a term of from 3 to 8 years.
Separately, an investigation is ongoing regarding allowing the minor to drive a vehicle: the defendant’s mother was notified of suspicion under Article 287 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and she will also appear in court soon.
