One day — and out of the country: a Ukrainian was deported from Poland after traffic offenses
The Poles didn't bother to explain: a Ukrainian was convicted, deported, and barred from the Schengen area for five years
In Poland border guards promptly deported a 25-year-old citizen of Ukraine from the territory of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The man was detained on May 26, 2026, and that same day was escorted to the border crossing Medyka, where he was handed over to the Ukrainian side. This was reported by the Polish outlet Onet with reference to Glos24.pl.
The detention took place after the Ukrainian was handed over to the officers of the Border Guard of Poland by police from the district police station in Oświęcim. According to the Polish side, during his stay in Poland the 25-year-old man committed traffic-related offenses and was convicted by a court for them. After that, a decision was made obliging the Ukrainian to return. Polish services explained this by a strengthened response to such violations of the law and the need to protect public order. The decision was subject to immediate execution.
That same day border guards carried out the full procedure of escorting and handing over the man at the Medyka checkpoint. There he was handed over to the Ukrainian border services. Separately, the Polish side announced that the 25-year-old citizen of Ukraine was banned from re-entering not only Poland, but the entire Schengen Area for a period of five years.
Polish services emphasized that the entire operation was carried out urgently and completed within one day after the detention. Such a pace of action, they said, is meant to demonstrate a tougher approach to foreigners who violate Polish rules.
This story is illustrative for Ukrainians who are in EU countries: even violations that may initially seem “not critical” can, after a court decision, result in deportation and a multi-year ban on entry to the Schengen Area.
