Ukrainian women are increasingly getting behind the wheel of trucks: nine female graduates will take Category C driving tests
Retraining provides higher income and a more flexible schedule, helping women maintain financial stability during martial law
The share of women among heavy vehicle drivers in Ukraine is noticeably increasing: a consultation meeting was held at the capital’s MVS service center for participants of the OnTrack program of the Reskilling Ukraine project who completed training for category «C» and are preparing to take the theoretical and practical exams.
Currently 9 participants have already completed training and will soon take both parts of the tests in order to obtain the right to drive freight vehicles.
During the meeting, service center administrators explained in detail the exam procedures, the process for issuing a driver’s license, and the current legislative requirements. They also highlighted the most common mistakes made during the practical exam and provided advice intended to help candidates pass the skills assessment with greater confidence.
The MVS emphasizes a trend of Ukrainian women more actively changing their professional trajectories and mastering specialties that until recently were mostly considered “male”, particularly in the field of freight transportation.
For a significant number of participants, retraining has become a tool to adapt to new economic realities and an opportunity to secure a stable income.
Among the participants’ stories is a future driver who worked as a speech therapist for over 30 years, but after the introduction of martial law and the shift to remote work decided to change her profession. Another participant deliberately left an office position in favor of a more flexible schedule, the prospect of higher pay, and the opportunity to spend more time with her child.
The service center also reports that driver candidates are increasingly choosing MVS vehicles for practical exams, which, according to the agency, indicates trust in the technical condition of the fleet and in the conditions under which the exams are held.
