Valeriy Budak has died — an academician and long-time rector of MNU named after Sukhomlynskyi
Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of education, author of over 390 scientific publications and an honorary citizen of Mykolaiv
20 April Ukrainian scientist Valeriy Dmytrovych Budak passed away, academician of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine; this was reported by the press service of the NAPS of Ukraine.
For more than a quarter of a century he headed Mykolaiv National University named after V.O. Sukhomlynsky — from 1996 to 2024. After completing his term he continued to work in education as an adviser to the rector of the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding.
Besides administrative activities, the scientist was a member of the National Committee of Ukraine on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. For his significant contribution to the development of the city he held the title of Honorary Citizen of Mykolaiv.
Valeriy Budak was born on 14 September 1947 in Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi, Cherkasy Oblast.
The scientist’s body of work includes more than 390 publications, among them 11 monographs and 28 textbooks. Under his scientific supervision, 4 candidate (PhD) dissertations were defended.
Valeriy Budak was awarded the Order “For Merit” of the II and III degrees, Honorary Diplomas of the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, distinctions of the Ministry of Education and Science, as well as medals of the NAPS of Ukraine. He is a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of education.
