Clicking a link in a social benefit advertisement on a social network cost a woman from Mykolaiv nearly UAH 94,000
A 62-year-old woman entered personal data and card details; investigators opened proceedings under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for up to 8 years' imprisonment and confiscation of property
In Mykolaiv, a 62-year-old woman, while trying to apply for a social payment through an advertisement on a social network, lost more than 90 thousand hryvnias; the case was reported by the regional police.
According to preliminary investigation data, on the social network the victim came across a message about the possibility of receiving social assistance and followed the provided link.
After following the link she entered her personal data and bank account details, after which nearly 94 thousand hryvnias were debited from her card.
Investigators opened a criminal proceeding on signs of fraud as provided for by Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The penalty under this article is imprisonment for up to 8 years, with confiscation of property.
