In Leipzig, resident David Hinz secured a court ruling after preparing a petition with the help of ChatGPT instead of a lawyer; the petition was granted in October 2025, DW reports.
The story began when the man accidentally received an extra 242.34 euros in benefits. He informed the relevant authority about the erroneous payment, but afterwards he was charged with fraud.
Preparing for the hearing, Hinz turned to ChatGPT and, with its prompts, drafted a petition of 18 pages. He submitted that document to the court, and ultimately the court agreed with the applicant’s arguments.
According to him, it was a matter of principle, since a possible criminal record could have complicated his employment prospects.
