In Bukovina, the Malysh family is raising as many as 2 pairs of twins: girls arrived first, and after 8 years the family welcomed boys.

The story was reported by Suspilne. The mother, Mariia Malysh, recalls that she and her husband Oleksandr initially planned for one child and did not expect twins. At the first ultrasound the couple learned they were expecting two babies. The news both surprised and delighted the family, although the father initially worried about how to cope with double caregiving.

During the full-scale war, Oleksandr Malysh joined the Defense Forces and for more than 1 year carried out combat missions in Luhansk Oblast. Despite this, the couple decided not to postpone the second pregnancy.

When they were expecting another child, an ultrasound again confirmed a twin pregnancy. Mariia admitted that at first she could not believe the doctor, since she was already raising two children.

Both pregnancies passed without complications: all 4 children were born by cesarean section, each weighing about 3 kilograms.

It turned out that the family has a hereditary tendency for having twins — such cases occurred on both the maternal and paternal sides. The older daughters, Nika and Viktoriia, gladly welcomed their younger brothers and help their mother with care.

The medical director of the Chernivtsi Regional Perinatal Center, Vasyl Rynzhuk, noted that statistically there is one multiple pregnancy per more than 40 ordinary pregnancies. According to him, genetics play a decisive role, and carrying twins is a significant strain on the body. He also added that in nearly 40 years of the center’s work, Mariia Malysh is one of the few women who have given birth to two sets of twins.
