More than 2,000 schoolchildren in the Mykolaiv region contracted the flu in a week

In Mykolaiv Oblast from March 9 to 15, 3925 people fell ill with influenza and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), among whom 4 cases of COVID-19 were laboratory-confirmed; this was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

According to the data provided by the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, among all patients there were 2612 children and 1313 adults. In the structure of pediatric morbidity, schoolchildren predominate: they accounted for 77.3%, which amounts to 2018 cases.

Inpatient care for influenza was required during the week by 113 patients. The largest share among hospitalized patients were children aged 0–4 years — 38.9%, children 5–14 years — 23.9%, and adults aged 30 and over — 28.3%.

Despite the increase in seasonal morbidity, the indicator in Mykolaiv Oblast remains below the epidemic threshold by 27.5%.

Health officials also reported that the epidemic threshold has been exceeded in Volyn and Zhytomyr oblasts, while Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast records a low level of morbidity. In other regions of the country and in Kyiv, the epidemic situation is assessed as stable.
