Putin is willing to halt strikes on Ukraine only on election day
The condition is a decision by the Ukrainian authorities to organize a vote
If the Ukrainian authorities decide to hold elections, Vladimir Putin is ready to order that no strikes be carried out on Ukraine on voting day. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday, October 12, 2026, that the Russian president was prepared to do so.
“The President has already spoken about this, but I can say on his behalf, with full responsibility, that if they in Kyiv genuinely want to hold elections, the President of the Russian Federation, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, will be ready to give an order not to strike Ukraine on election day, specifically on election day,” Dmitry Peskov said.
Separately, a Kremlin representative said that contacts were continuing regarding a possible energy truce. However, he did not name the participants in the talks; it is not known whether they are being held with Ukraine, the United States, or both sides.
According to Peskov, the Russian side will provide details when more information becomes available.
