Cold and Shelling: Mykolaiv Zoo Takes in Turtles from Kherson

Mykolaiv Zoo has taken in two turtles from the Kherson Regional Museum of Local History for temporary care. The animals have found shelter to protect them from the cold in the unheated museum building and from regular shelling.

The zoo agreed to provide temporary care for the turtles. The zoo’s director, Volodymyr Topchyi, helped arrange their admission.

Before the full-scale invasion, the turtles were kept in exhibition halls and aquariums in the museum’s natural history departments. The damaged premises are now unsuitable for keeping them because of the danger of shelling.

The turtles will stay at the zoo until the museum is fully restored, after which they are to be returned to Kherson.
