"Accident situations are being created": a resident of the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv asks to remove the new road sign
Parking, a crossing and reconstruction in front of the "zebra": a dangerous stretch found in the Korabelnyi district
A resident of Mykolaiv, Iryna Tarasova contacted the Contact Center at the Mykolaiv City Council via the social network Facebook with a request to review the traffic organization in the Korabelnyi District.
According to the woman, after a new road sign was installed on the section near the railway crossing and the market, accident situations began to occur that, she claims, did not exist before. Iryna Tarasova draws attention to the fact that before and after the railway crossing there are effectively two lanes of traffic, however on a certain section there is road marking and a sign that force drivers to change lanes.
A separate problem, according to the complainant, is the condition of the railway crossing itself.
After the crossing, a lane is marked in front of the pedestrian crossing which, according to the installed sign, is intended for left turns only. Therefore drivers who intend to continue straight need to merge to the right. At the same time, the right lane, as Iryna Tarasova notes, is almost constantly occupied by parked cars. Because of this, drivers have to perform maneuvers on a short stretch of road, and directly near the pedestrian crossing.
The complainant also points out that after the first pedestrian crossing two lanes of traffic begin again, forcing drivers to change lanes once more. In the opinion of the resident of the Korabelnyi District, such a scheme can create additional danger not only for motorists but also for pedestrians.
“Please remove the recently installed sign for 3 lanes in the Korabelnyi District after the crossing near the market. This sign is causing many accident situations that never happened before,” — stated Iryna Tarasova in her appeal.
She asks city services to look into the situation and pay attention to the work of the contracting organizations that were responsible for organizing traffic in this section.
“Please deal with the contractors who thought it was a good idea to create such dangerous conditions in front of pedestrians,” — emphasized the resident of Mykolaiv.
Thus, the complainant asks to review the installed road sign and the traffic scheme near the railway crossing to avoid forced lane changes by vehicles directly in front of pedestrian crossings.
